The Sir Bertram Stevens Institute exists because free societies do not preserve themselves. They require conviction, leadership, and a willingness to defend the inheritance that sustains them. Australia has too often lost confidence in that task. We were founded in the belief that such confidence can be restored.
We believe New South Wales can again produce public leaders with courage, conviction and leadership.
We believe in the institutions of a free and prosperous society: parliamentary democracy, the rule of law, free enterprise, individual liberties, family, and national cohesion.
These are not relics of the past to be apologised for or forgotten. They are the achievements of Western civilisation that need to be defended, strengthened, and handed on to the next generation.
Our mission is to strengthen the intellectual and moral foundations of public life. We are working to renew conservative leadership, elevate the standard of public debate, and form Australians capable of serious, principled service. That is the task before us, and we intend to meet it.
